Routes

In the district of Mugardos, many routes can be suggested. The tourist office can be found at Mugardos' harbour, very near the mooring place of the Lancha de Mugardos.

TOURING BY BICYCLE    MUGARDOS-SEGAÑO ROUTE

28We start at La Casa do Reloxo at Mugardos' harbour, near  the mooring place of the Lancha. The Lancha sails from Mugardos to Ferrol.

We travel in direction to “Cantón de Cora” from where we ride up the street “Calle Real” to the L-131(street of O Peteiro) going through As Mareas and  surround the cove of O Baño (a beautiful cove located on the beach of A Bestarruza) first in downhill and later in uphill to the tip of Redonda.

After encircling the cove of O Baño we arrive to the beautiful place of A Redonda, an excellent viewpoint of Mugardos and its beach, A Bestarruza.

35After passing Redonda we will leave behind the municipality's last houses  and find ourselves in front of the castle of A Palma, an impressive military fortification, a XVI century original. Long ago, along with Ferrol's castle, San Felipe, it controlled the river mouth. From the castle we will continue our route paralled with the sea on dirt tracks until the cape of O Segaño (in the district of Ares).

From this point we have a magnificent general view of the Atlantic Ocean, the beginning of the estuary of Ferrol, the outside harbour... and if the day is clear, the awe-inspiring panorama will take your breath away.

At this point, after covering 6kms, we have the option to either go back by the same route to Mugardos or continue in direction to the cove of Chanteiro where we will find a lovely beach tucked away from the winds.

From here we surround the woods of Montefaro and Bailadora through the parishes of Chanteiro and Cervas and start our uphill through  Monte, Sandei and Barra towards Robeiras and the cove of O Baño back in Mugardos.

400 metres after starting the ascent of the Pazo das Condesas, we will take a detour on the right, via the L-131, that will take us to San Julián de Mugardos church. From there we will arrive to the street of del Cristo and go downhill along Alta street until the San Telmo church and continue our descent towards the harbour and complete the 13,408 kilometres of this journey.39

TOURING BY BICYCLE     MUGARDOS-O SEIXO ROUTE

We start at La Casa do Reloxo at Mugardos' harbour near the mooring place of the Lancha. The Lancha sails from Mugardos to Ferrol. We travel in direction to “Cantón de Cora” from where we ascend the Avenida de Galicia towards the place of O Penedo on the road of O Seixo.41

We continue on this road paralleled with the sea until we arrive to O Seixo, a small and lovely town with a pier and a typical marine arquitecture.

From here, we continue towards the Franza church and towards the road L-122 that we cross to get to the Ascensión chapel, in the parish of San Juan de Pineiro. This stretch is filled with many groves which make the ride very pleasant in summer.

From here we surround the woods of Montefaro and Bailadora through the parishes of Chanteiro and Cervas and start our uphill through  Monte, Sandei and Barra towards Robeiras and the cove of O Baño back in Mugardos.

Once there we direct ourselves to Rilo, Areosa and Os Casás where we take the road down to the San Vicente de Meá church and come back to Mugardos' harbour on the street of Contrmaestre Casado passing through the Casas Baratas, Campo dos Carneiros and down to the Casa do Reloxo.

This journey covers 12.208 kilometres, most of the part, through the interior areas of the municipality. The stretches are all asfalted with not much traffic, being therefore, accessible for bikes45
